Subject: last night
Last night I had an incredibly awesome dream, actually
it's the first one I remembered in a long time.
I was walking along through the countryside with an older
(50-something) Indian/Native American man who was acting as my
mentor. He was teaching me of his ways and of the beauty and magic
in all the plants and elements that we encountered. I was feeling
fairly enlightened and very much at peace with myself.
By nightfall we had come to an old abandoned barn, and
as we entered, my mentor explained to me that a wolf had been
known to spend occasional nights in the barn. As he entered the
next room in the barn I could hear him talking to "his old friend"
and I realized that it was the wolf he had mentioned. I was busy
thinking about how amazing it was that he had found peace with
a wild predator that I forgot to be alarmed or worried. I walked
into the room and right past the wolf. All the wolf did was curl
its lip at me a little, showing its fangs, but otherwise let me
pass. I pulled up a chair to the rear of my mentor and sat completely
awe stricken by what was happening. When the wolf got up, I noticed
that it had white patches, on the side of its head and one on
the opposite side of its body, and remembering how odd this looked
on an otherwise natural, although somewhat mangey wolf. The wolf
came over to me and began licking the inside of my fingers.
Although he didn't speak, I could see or hear or feel
that my mentor was impressed and that without an inner peace and
appreciation of those I share the world with, the wolf would never
be greeting me in this manner.
For a split second I had doubts while my hand was at the
mercy of a wild beast, and during that split second the wolf's
lickings hesitated, he sensing my fear. It then resumed licking
my fingers to re-assure and calm me. I put my fear aside and tried
to regain that original calm.
And then I woke up, in a very cool mood. :)
        F'ing Awesome man!

This dream occurred when we were having exceptionally
warm spring weather, and I had been exploring the local park
reserves, searching for 'weeds' that the Native American's had
used for various purposes. Having spent the summer rummaging
through plant books and books about Native American plant usage,
my mind was very attracted to the ancient American Indian
lifestyles and spiritualities. With that in mind, this dream is
fairly straight-forward.

If you happen to be a Minnesota Native American reading this,
and are in tune with your peoples' spiritualities, I would be
VERY interested in starting an apprenticeship to learn more
and embrace your spiritualities/lifestyles. Please contact me at
